Made from recyclable ABS plastic, the polySTRIKER XL is a fantastic firesteel & is ideal for Forest School sessions & bushcrafters alike. We really like this product – click on the Staff Review tab to see why.

The polySTRIKER™ XL features an innovative tungsten carbide striker which is built into an easy-to-use striking tool that snaps away into the handle when not in use – an excellent design! The striking handle and tool are connected by a lanyard to ensure both parts are present and accounted for at all times. Simply push the striking tool out from the cut-out in the back of the handle and you’re ready to rock.

Staff Review

We’ve been testing these for over a year now and they are a firm favourite with all the kids that we teach at our forest school sessions, not to mention the adults! The PolySTRIKER XL is so good at creating sparks that we’ve had a 100% success rate with children as young as 3 years old being able to light a ball of cotton wool.

Unlike regular firesteels which generally come with a stamp-cut flat steel striker & sharpened underside edges, the Exotac PolySTRIKER range comes with an ‘H’ shaped tungsten carbide striker allowing the novice user (e.g. kids) or those with mobility issues (e.g. arthritic or semi-hypothermic hands) the ability to create a shower of hot sparks everytime.

They are so good at producing sparks we once had a spark throwing competition with one forest school group (don’t try this at home, etc). The rules were; from a standing position create the sparks at waist height & the winner is the one who gets a (still burning) spark to land on the ground the furthest away. The group of year 4 kids (8-9 year olds) repeatedly managed to get sparks to travel over 2 metres!

You won’t be disappointed.
